Okay, this graphic features a lyric from “Hammers and Strings” which may or may not be my favorite Jack’s Mannequin song of all time. It’s not the one I sing most often, it’s not the most fun to dance to, I didn’t choose a lyric from it for my future tattoo…
But this song. jkdvbkjsdbfv. It moves me. All over the place.
I don’t think I said much on here about the JM concert I went to in Boston on the 3rd, since I’ve been on something of a hiatus, but they played this song. They usually don’t play it at shows, probably because it’s rather quiet, but for whatever reason they played it at the House of Blues when I was there. In the front row. Right up against the barrier. Strategically positioned so that Andy’s piano bench was directly in front of my face. And when he started playing the opening of Hammers and Strings jdkbvkjsbdkjvshdg let’s just say that before he was even half way through the song I was sobbing. SOBBING. Not tearing up (that was Spinning). Not singing along with a few tears on my cheeks (Swim). Outright. Sobbing. Loud. Heavy. Sobs. (Not that anyone could hear me over the music, but still) Andy tends to keep his eyes closed during certain songs, usually the ones that fans get the most emotional about, and I’m beginning to think that it’s because for whatever reason he doesn’t like to watch people cry. Maybe he doesn’t feel like his music is good enough to garner such emotions (which is bullshit…but that’s what he’s said in the past about people with his lyrics as tattoos), maybe he wants to let people have their private moments, maybe he’s worried that he’d get emotional too. Who knows. All I know is I was glad he wasn’t looking at me because I was a gorram mess. Though I’m pretty sure he could tell afterwards. And Mikey definitely saw me crying. OH WELL. ALL OF THE JACK’S FEELS FOREVER.
For the curious, here are the lyrics of Hammers and Strings…

These hammers and strings, been following me around. From my box-filled garage,to the dark punk rock clubsof one thousand American towns. And my friend calls me upshe says, “How have you been?”I say, “Dear, I’ve been well.Yeah the money’s come in.But I miss you like hellI still hear you in this old piano.” Yeah. She says, “Andy, I knowthat we don’t talk as much, but I still hear your ghostin these old punk rock clubs.Come on, write me a song.Give me something to trust.Just promise you won’t let it bejust the keys that you touch…”“Give me something to believe in!A breath from the breathing!Just write it down.I don’t think that I’ll close my eyes.‘Cause lately I’m not dreaming,so what’s the point in sleeping? It’s just that at night I’ve got nowhere to hide.”So I’ll write you a lullaby. These hammers and strings, been following me around.Behind passenger vans, through the snow, dirt, and sandsof one thousand American towns. And my friend calls me upwith her heart heavy still, she says, “Andy, the doctorsprescribed me the pills, but I know I’m not crazy.I just lost my will.So why am I,why am I,taking them still?”“I need something to believe in!A breath from the breathing!Just write it down,I don’t think that I’ll close my eyes.‘Cause lately I’m not dreaming,so what’s the point in sleeping? It’s just that at night I’ve got nowhere to hide.”To the sleepless this is my replyI will write you a lullaby

For the curious, here are the lyrics of Hammers and Strings…

These hammers and strings,
been following me around.
From my box-filled garage,
to the dark punk rock clubs
of one thousand American towns.
And my friend calls me up
she says, “How have you been?”
I say, “Dear, I’ve been well.
Yeah the money’s come in.
But I miss you like hell
I still hear you in this old piano.” Yeah.

She says, “Andy, I know
that we don’t talk as much,
but I still hear your ghost
in these old punk rock clubs.
Come on, write me a song.
Give me something to trust.
Just promise you won’t let it be
just the keys that you touch…”

“Give me something to believe in!
A breath from the breathing!
Just write it down.
I don’t think that I’ll close my eyes.
‘Cause lately I’m not dreaming,
so what’s the point in sleeping?
It’s just that at night I’ve got nowhere to hide.”
So I’ll write you a lullaby.

These hammers and strings,
been following me around.
Behind passenger vans,
through the snow, dirt, and sands
of one thousand American towns.
And my friend calls me up
with her heart heavy still,
she says, “Andy, the doctors
prescribed me the pills,
but I know I’m not crazy.
I just lost my will.
So why am I,
why am I,
taking them still?”

“I need something to believe in!
A breath from the breathing!
Just write it down,
I don’t think that I’ll close my eyes.
‘Cause lately I’m not dreaming,
so what’s the point in sleeping?
It’s just that at night I’ve got nowhere to hide.”
To the sleepless this is my reply
I will write you a lullaby
