James Cameron said he wanted Avatar to be the next Star Wars...but this is ridiculous.
It took Lucas more than ten years to re-release the Special Editions of the original Star Wars trilogy into theaters, complete with a whole slew of added in creatures and special effects (Han Shot First, anyone?)
James Cameron, clearly in an effort to snag the title of “Craziest, Greediest Director Ever”, is re-releasing a Special Edition of Avatar a scant 8 months after the film’s initial release! And, YES, he’s even adding in some new creatures.
Umm….Mr. Cameron….are you forgetting the subsequent backlash to the SW Special Editions? and have you perhaps overlooked the fact that Avatar hasn’t garnered anything close to the devoted, obsessive fan base that SW had within a year of its initial release?
I find your lack of logic disturbing, young Cameron….
So, we’re finally home from the last graduation party of the summer. Kind of a sad thought, no? But that’s not what I’m writing about.
Ponyo came in the mail from Netflix today. My sister’s choice, since I put The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus at top of the list and then kept it for over a month. So here I am, munching on some pizza, pondering why I have a headache, and hearing from the other room…..Qui-Gon Jinn?!? Or is that Ra’s al Ghul?
I’m sure Carly mentioned before that this strange (but, I do have to admit, well-reviewed) Japanese animated film contained the vocal talents of none other than Liam Neeson…but, well, I guess I just didn’t expect it to sound like my second-favorite Old Order Jedi. He’s even saying things like “stay calm”.
It’s messing with my head.
And it almost makes me want to watch the movie…almost.
(Before you ask, yes, I’ve seen Spirited Away. It was cinematically impressive, but I just couldn’t immerse myself in the story, and for me that’s what movies are all about.)
So, rather than letting my renewed anxieties about my housing situation fill up my head with “AHHHHH!” and plug up my creativity…I thought I might as well just tell Tumblr about it. Thus, despite the fact that it’s almost one in the morning and I have work at noon tomorrow (yes, aka today), I shall tell you about my TWO new roommates.
Just when I was beginning to feel comfortable with the idea of going to Boston and living in a small room with two other people in less than three weeks, they go and pull this.
I almost thought it was a joke when I first read the email.
Though, I suppose I should have been expecting it since one of my original roommates mentioned that her mother disliked the idea of a triple and was going to call the school and complain.
If I ever make a Top Ten list of things I hate, it will surely include crazy, overbearing mothers. Don’t worry, when I get around to writing it up, you’ll get to read it.
So this afternoon I happen to glance at my email and notice there is a message from Emmanuel…about housing…oh boy. Here I am, expecting one new roommate…
SURPRISE! Here are two girls you never knew existed, you’ll be living with them in three weeks! Oh, and, you have NOTHING in common with them! HAVE FUN!
Ok, so the one (Amanda) isn’t that bad…and the other (Victoria, ironically) might turn out to be a very nice person, she’s just a “party girl”. I mean, she has a case of Bud in her profile picture. That kind of “party girl”. The ones they warn you about in movies. But hey, who’s to say she isn’t a great person underneath all that nonsense? I’m not going to judge.
But I did freak out a bit when all of this first hit me. And I believe I was justified in doing so. I don’t do well with change! That was a lot for me to handle in one evening! I’m still recovering.
And I’m still considering sending an email to the housing director requesting a change of room….or at least explaining my concerns.
We’ll see how it goes.
Roommate troubles have already begun and I haven’t even moved in yet…..it’s going to be an interesting year.
Those of us who are savvy in the world (or virtual world?) of internet fandoms have long known that Twitter is really a perfect tool for venting your pent-up obsessions. Who wouldn’t want to periodically type 140 characters in the style of their favorite character? I follow a multitide of in-character Twitter accounts myself, but now it seems the general public is also discovering the entertainment value of such nerdiness! The only thing that disturbs me about this Time News Feed link is the fact that all of these popular tweeters are, well, evil……is the Dark Side clouding our galaxy?!?!?
It’s about time for me to do something moderately productive on the internet.
It’s about time for me to actually write something every day, as good writers do.
It’s about time for me to pack up an head off to college.
It’s about time I went downstairs and fixed another cup of coffee.
It’s about time I considered kicking this caffeine habit.
It’s about time I learned to stop procrastinating.
It’s about time I set up a blog.
So…hello there Tumblr. Nice to meet you. With any luck, this swill be the beginning of a nice long partnership. For (literally) years I’ve intended to start up a blog for myself; mostly, because I’m a writer and therefore am conceited enough to firmly believe that whatever I think up is important enough for ALL of you (meaning people of the internet) to want to read everyday, but also because a very wise woman once said to me “you can’t call yourself a writer if you don’t actually write”. I’ve tried and failed to commit myself to a blog before, but this time I’m fairly certain it will work. Why? Because firstly, I have a lot to say at this point in my life (college is a scam….but we’ll get to that later…) and secondly, Tumblr is really very awesome. I’m very surprised it’s taken me so long to jump on the Tumblr bandwagon, and I must thank my dear friend (and uber talented Artist) Lauren for flat out telling me to make a Tumblr when I started muttering randomly about how I wish I could pick a blog website.
So, world, welcome to “Everything is Writeable”. A blog that will soon be piled high with the things that pop into my head and the things that strike me as interesting. The name is inspired by a Sylvia Plath quote (see the first post). I hope you enjoy what I have to say? If you do, please follow and spam others with the url. :o)
